Case Study: Fine Design Furniture Australia – Collaborative Cabinetry Design & Installation for a Curved, Natural-Toned Home in Fig Tree Pocket, QLD
Fine Design Furniture Australia was engaged to partner closely with the owner-builder of a newly constructed residence in Fig Tree Pocket, Queensland, an architecturally refined home defined by natural tones, soft curves and a cohesive interior language. As both client and builder, the owner played a central role in shaping the vision for the home. This created an especially collaborative environment, where ideas could evolve fluidly and cabinetry could be designed with a level of detail that seamlessly aligned with the home’s architectural character.
Fine Design Furniture Australia contributed to every major joinery element in the residence, including the kitchen, robes, vanities, wall units, laundry and impressive outdoor BBQ area. The result was a cohesive, elegant and highly functional home featuring a blend of craftsmanship, thoughtful material choices and carefully executed curves that softened the modern design.
From the outset, the homeowner’s vision focused on a minimalist aesthetic grounded in warmth and natural textures. Curves played a defining role in the architectural design, providing gentle movement through the interiors and creating a sense of calm continuity from room to room. To complement this, Fine Design Furniture Australia worked closely with the owner-builder to conceptualise cabinetry that enhanced the flow of the home while maintaining practicality for everyday use.
Because the client was directly involved as the builder, communication was exceptionally streamlined. Design discussions could quickly turn into on-site trials, allowing decisions to be tested against real-world conditions. Fine Design Furniture Australia supplied design guidance, material recommendations, technical drawings and prototypes where needed, ensuring each piece of joinery felt intentional and integrated rather than simply installed.
The success of the cabinetry’s visual impact relied heavily on material cohesion and finish quality. The palette was intentionally neutral to highlight the home’s curves, natural light and organic textures.
All external cabinetry was finished in a premium 2pac Dulux Lexicon Quarter, hand-applied in-house by Fine Design Furniture Australia’s own spray team. The 30% satin sheen offered the perfect balance between modern sophistication and durability, lending a soft, velvety surface that complemented the home’s natural tones. This crisp white finish allowed curved edges, shadow lines and architectural detailing to stand out without overwhelming the space.
To soften the white cabinetry and introduce natural depth, the client selected Stone Ambassador Marbella. Its subtle veining provided an elegant contrast, creating movement and warmth in the kitchen, vanities and feature surfaces. The pairing of Lexicon Quarter with Marbella stone became a recurring design element throughout the home, ensuring consistency across different cabinetry zones while allowing each space to feel individually crafted.
Fine Design Furniture Australia incorporated Kethy Fornel handles in Brushed Rose Brass, chosen for their warm metallic tone and distinctive curvature. This handle complemented both the colour palette and the architectural emphasis on curves, adding a refined and tactile detail that tied together various cabinetry elements. Their soft rose brass finish introduced understated luxury without overpowering the minimalist style.
The kitchen and scullery were fitted with Smeg appliances, selected for their reliability and sleek, contemporary appearance. Fine Design Furniture Australia ensured all appliances were seamlessly integrated, maintaining clean visual lines and ensuring the cabinetry framing delivered both functionality and aesthetic consistency.
Because the project involved every cabinetry area within the home, Fine Design Furniture Australia adopted a holistic approach—designing each zone with awareness of the wider interior vision.
The kitchen served as the central feature of the home, showcasing precise curves, fluted detailing and a balance of open and closed storage. The curved island wrapped in Marbella stone became a focal point, paired with Lexicon Quarter 2pac cabinetry and rose brass hardware to deliver a clean, timeless look. Seamless integration of Smeg appliances preserved the streamlined aesthetic.
Each bedroom was fitted with custom robes featuring a blend of soft-close drawers, hanging space and integrated shelving. The same cabinetry palette ensured continuity, with subtle curved corners and routed profiles enhancing user experience and consistency.
Bathroom vanities echoed the home’s coastal-modern feel, pairing curved cabinetry faces with Marbella stone tops. The satin 2pac finish held up beautifully against moisture-heavy environments, offering both durability and beauty.
Custom wall units created functional storage while contributing to the home’s architectural expression. Open shelving and curved edges allowed the units to blend into the overall space, avoiding the bulkiness typical of traditional storage furniture.
The laundry combined practicality with visual unity, maintaining the Lexicon Quarter finish and ensuring even utility spaces reflected the home’s elevated design.
Fine Design Furniture Australia also built the cabinetry for the covered outdoor BBQ zone, ensuring materials and finishes balanced durability with aesthetics. Marbella stone and curved forms were reinterpreted for exterior conditions, tying the outdoor living zone back into the interior story.
The collaboration between Fine Design Furniture Australia and the owner-builder allowed for rapid, thoughtful decision-making, precise craftsmanship and a shared design vision that strengthened as the project unfolded. The resulting home exemplifies modern Australian living, welcoming, functional, refined and grounded in natural textures and gentle curves.
Every cabinetry piece contributes to a cohesive architectural narrative, demonstrating how material selection, collaboration and craftsmanship can elevate a new build into a timeless and harmonious home.
